Best Music Company has been in the business of selling musical instruments and accessories since 1934. A long-standing Oakland institution, we are the Bay Area leader in quality, diversity and customer service.

Our stock of musical items is one of the largest in Northern California, everything from Accordions to Zildjian Cymbals.

Located at 1716 Broadway in downtown Oakland, our business hours are 9:00am to 6:00pm Monday through Thursday and 9:00 to 5:30 Friday and Saturday.

Our Woodwind Repair shop is open 9:00 to 5:30 Tuesday through Saturday. Our Brass Repair shop is open 1:00 to 5:30 Thursdays and Saturdays.

Order
We request information from customers on our order form. Here customers must provide contact information (like name and shipping address) and financial information (like credit card number, expiration date). This information is used for billing purposes and to fill customer’s orders. If we have trouble processing an order, this contact information is used to get in touch with a customer.

Directions

Five steps from the 19th street BART station, we are located at 1716 Broadway between 17th and 19th street.

From 880 North: take the Broadway exit and turn right on Broadway. We are on the right past 17th Street.

From 580 West: take the 980 downtown Oakland exit. Take the 14th to 18th Street exit. Turn left on 17th Street and left again on Broadway.

From San Francisco: take 80 East over the Bay Bridge, exit 980 downtown Oakland. Take the 14th to 18th Street exit. Turn left on 17th Street and left again on Broadway.

Instrument Rentals

We at Best Musical Instrument Company have been renting musical instruments to students of all ages and as far away as the Marshall Islands since 1934. We rent only top quality brand student instruments including Yamaha, Selmer, Bach, Gemeinhardt, and Buffet. Below you will find a list of our standard rental rates. All instruments have a minimum rental of three months unless specified otherwise. We offer a nine month special on all instruments: pay for six months and receive three months for free for nine months total. Also available for rental are Bassoons, Bari Saxes, Flugelhorns, Sousaphones, and Tubas. *3 months is the minimum monthly rental term for most instruments. After the initial rental contract has ended, the instrument will be billed monthly at the listed rate.

**Short term rental period is for a period not to exceed 1 week. If the end of the contract does not coincide with our business hours, the item will be due the very next business day.

All rates are based on the value of the instrument rented. Some instruments not included in rental stock (which consist of instruments on this list) will have different rates. All rates listed above are the minimum rental rates for student level instruments, rates are subject to change. Click here for a list of our rental stock.

Please note that all California rentals are subject to California State sales tax, which has not been included in the amounts given above. Also, rentals are subject to credit approval and fees must be paid in advance for the full rental period. Best Musical Instrument Company also offers large discounts on new or used instrument purchases with a special return policy, if instrument is returned within 12 months. Full Service Woodwind and Brass Repair Shop.

Best Music offers a full-service, in-house woodwind and brass repair shop. Our technicians are masters of the instrument-healing arts and have satisfied patrons from all walks of music.

For larger jobs, please call for an appointment. For smaller repairs, come on in and our technicians will assess the cost of the repair on the spot, offering a one-on-one approach to the fixing of your instrument, a service sadly lacking in other repair departments.

Our woodwind repair shop is open Tuesday - Saturday, 9am - 5:30pm

Our Brass repair shop is open Wednesdays & Saturdays 12:30pm - 5:30pm
